It's just political warfare. I think both sides play hardball. To me, it's totally fair game to investigate the family. They chose to enter the political arena and be used as props. What's wrong with looking into their authenticity? So, they're good, married, hard-working folk, but pretty well off. Why should I pay for their kids' healthcare?
One thing I find completely exasperating is the totemization of victims. The Democrats are constantly, cynically exploiting victims to make their untenable political arguments for them. So we get Max Cleland rollling up on Crawford in his wheelchair, or Cindy Sheehan leading marches, or this twelve year old kid reading a speech someone gave him. Its the political equivalent of a terrorist using a woman as a human shield while firing his weapon. If you don't want your women, children and cripples getting hurt, don't put them in the line of fire.
So if you want to use a family as a case study in why SCHIP should be expanded, perhaps you should find one that's genuinely needy.
Truth be told, I don't even care that much about SCHIP. It's not the political battlefield I would choose to die on, but I do think it's yet another fundamentally dishonest political manuevre by the Democrats. Put up a bloated, 35 billlion dollar monstrosity when the original number was like 5 billon and then we can all run around wringing our hands because BUSH WANTS SICK KIDS TO DIE!

'Pretty well off', they have never earned more than $50K combined, he had a small business 6 years ago that he had to close, they bought a house in 1990 for $50K in a relatively poor neighborhood that fortunately gentrified, he owns another building worth $160K that they use as a source of income because his pay (he is a freelance carpenter) is spotty. Without SCHIP they would be bankrupt, I suppose for you that would be better than 'socialized medicine' which by the way SCHIP is not.
The child told his story, the story of an horrendous car crash that left his sister permanently brain damaged and he, hampered with physical and mental problems that may last a lifetime, it's his story, his life and he was telling it as a way to show support for a bi-partisan program, supported by many republicans, the insurance industry, the medical industry and 48 governors, that has brought at least a modicum of relief to him and his family.
Michelle Stalkin pried into this families life in order to find any dirt she could, she failed and is going to pay a terrible price. And why did she pry? To satisfy her ideological arguments nagainst a program she has absolutely no understanding of? No. She pried because her and her venomous ilk have to protect Bush at all costs, all they have now is wanton idolatry and hero worship for the worst president in American history. It's sad but all you have is now assunder and like cornered rats you'll attack.
It has been the republican party's complete contempt for the American people and their way of life and overarching arrogance in the face empirical evidence that has turned the American people against you and your scurrilous party.
You should be ashamed... what next? Flag burning, lapel pin wearing, Terry Schiavo, hmmm, very serious stuff.
